The material in detail

Acrylic glass combines the visual clarity of glass with lighter weight and shatter-resistance โ€” a practical choice for retail displays, lightboxes, and exhibition applications where glass presents a logistical challenge. UV printing on acrylic produces the same vivid, scratch-resistant result as glass printing, with the added advantage of being cuttable into custom shapes after printing. Glastrix prints on clear, frosted, and coloured acrylic up to 3.20 ร— 2 metres. Acrylic is particularly useful when the substrate needs to be cut or formed after printing: display panels with cutouts, countertop standees, shaped exhibition pieces, or backlit signs where a specific housing dimension requires a non-standard panel size. From 1 piece, no setup fee, white-label, shipped within 48h from Berlin.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between printing on acrylic vs. glass?

Both produce vivid UV prints, but acrylic is lighter, shatterproof, and easier to cut into custom shapes. Glass has a premium feel and is better for permanent architectural installations; acrylic is better for retail, trade show, and lightbox applications.

What is the difference between UV-printed acrylic and Dibond or Forex?

Dibond is an aluminium-faced composite board; Forex is expanded PVC. Both are standard for signage but cannot be made transparent. Acrylic is optically clear, allowing backlit and transparent applications impossible with Dibond or Forex. UV print on acrylic also allows post-printing laser cutting into complex custom shapes.

Can acrylic be cut into custom shapes after printing?

Yes โ€” acrylic can be laser-cut or CNC-routed after printing. If you need a specific shape, specify it when requesting a quote and Glastrix will advise on the best workflow.

Is acrylic suitable for backlit applications?

Yes. Clear and frosted acrylic transmit light well, making them ideal for backlit signage and display panels. See Glastrix's backlit printing page for calibration specifics.

Is UV-printed acrylic scratch-resistant?

Yes โ€” UV ink cured into acrylic is scratch-resistant. Acrylic itself is softer than glass; for high-traffic surfaces, Glastrix can advise on protective coatings.

Artist, Custom Surface Prints

Glastrix is a dream for artists and other practitioners that wish to work with someone who is dedicated to the creative process. Eric and I spent hours in the studio together developing catered approaches to printing on the strange materials I brought in, and I am excited to continue this process. I found, at Glastrix, not only high quality printing and attention to detail, but an experimental and welcoming studio environment.
